This task has been designed for you to further develop your understanding of your standpoint, and how this relates to your responsibilities as an agentic teacher. It is vital to be conscious of policy and how it governs your everyday actions as a teaching professional.
The task asks you to review the Opportunity, Choice, Healing, Responsibility, Empowerment (OCHRE) policy of the NSW Government provided on moodle using three key questions:
Describe how teachers are particularly positioned as ‘policy workers’ (Bacchi & Goodwin, 2016, p. 9) in settler-colonial schooling systems
Review the policy and :
(a) Identify and describe the “problem” that the policy sets out to address
(b) Identify and describe the strategies designed to address this/ these problems
(c) What issues appear to be left unchallenged, what impact might this have on how the policy is actioned and if this unproblematised problem was included, how might its inclusion impact on what could happen in schools?
Critically reflect on your individual positioning to schooling norms and how your understanding of this positioning might influence your work as a ‘policy worker
