Hello,
My name is SL. I currently reside in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, but I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. I have been in the nursing field for 12 years. I began my nursing journey as an LPN and worked my way up to achieving my BSN-RN license. I am employed at Ochsner Health in the float pool department. I float to seven facilities within the organization. My specialty includes Med/Surg-Tele. I finally put my fear aside and applied to Herzing University to pursue my master’s degree with a specialty in family nurse practitioner. Here at Herzing University, I plan to gain as much knowledge and clinical experience as possible to become a prudent healthcare professional. In this course, I plan to further my understanding of leadership styles and skills to improve safety and provide quality care to patients. I will better understand how an organization’s finances and healthcare delivery can improve healthcare.
What is my dominant leadership style? I would say I utilize a democratic leadership style. When working with team members, I value open communication and collaboration. Feedback from team members is essential to me before making a decision. This leadership style helps increase employee satisfaction and engagement. As a democratic leader, it allows me to be fair and team-oriented. There are a few downfalls to this leadership style. The downfalls can lead to prolonged decision-making and a few communication gaps. Leadership is fundamental for professional and organizational commitment, teamwork, and success (Fenta et al., 2023). Maintaining a positive attitude and remaining open to suggestions will set essential goals and motivate team members to grow. Also, it can help expedite any decisions that need to be made. Influencing followers towards specific objectives is vital in leadership. Effective management of human resources, including in health institutions, is crucial for achieving organizational goals (Fenta et al., 2023). Democratic leadership practices promote cooperation, trust, and a healthy work environment, enhancing employee performance, especially for healthcare workers (Fenta et al., 2023).
