You will be working on the Semester Project throughout the term in parts as Project Part Assignments. Additional information can be found on the Semester Project Information page. You will get feedback from your instructor on the parts of the project in the Project Part as listed. Use that feedback to improve that portion of the project.
Project Part 6: Hypothesis Test for the Population Mean
1) Using the 35 values you created for Project Part 1, you will test one of the Hypothesis Statements below.
If you did not collect the 35 values yet, review Project Part 1 and the Data Sets for Project Part and the Semester Project page, collect them now.
2) See Below for your Null & Alternate Hypotheses.
3) Ensure your data is in L1, and then use the Student T Hypothesis Test
Stat > Tests > Line 2: T-test > Data >
= # (use the appropriate value from below), List: L1, Freq: 1,
: based on your Alternate Hypothesis below, Calculate.
4) Test the claim using α = 0.05
5) Include the following:
t: test statistic
p: p-value
6) Using at least 2 quality sentences answer the following:
Based on the information above, should the Null Hypothesis be rejected or not?
Explain your choice by comparing the p-value with α = 0.05.
7) Using at least 2 quality sentences write your conclusions.
Based on the information above, what conclusions can be drawn about the population mean.
Is there sufficient evidence to support your claim about the population mean (HA), why or why not?
Null and Alternate Hypotheses
First Initial of your First Name Null Hypothesis (H0) Alternate Hypothesis (HA)

Values to test the Population Mean
Your Data Set Use this value for the # in your Hypotheses Statements
2013 Average Annual Number Cancer of the colon and rectum (colorectal), mortality 505
2015 Average Annual Number Cancer of the colon and rectum (colorectal), mortality 506
2017 Average Annual Number Cancer of the colon and rectum (colorectal), mortality 509
2013 Average Annual Number Melanoma, mortality 88
2015 Average Annual Number Melanoma, mortality 89
2017 Average Annual Number Melanoma, mortality 84
When working on each part of the Semester Project the Best Practice is to type the information onto the appropriate slide of the Template Download Template, removing the directions, and then copy and paste your work and results into the text submission area of the assignment.
You may submit the project part as a text submission, Word Document, or the PowerPoint Slide from the Template (only that slide!) Do not submit your work as an embedded image in one of those files. Images cannot be accepted for these assignments. (File Types allowed: .doc,.docx,ppt,.pptx)
Data Sets for Project Parts and the Semester Project
INSTRUCTIONSEXAMPLEDATA SETS
The Data Sets on the Data Set Tab will be used for the Project Parts and the Semester Project. You will choose one Data Set to work with in Project Part 1 and create your own Systematic Sample. This sample will then be used in the following Project Parts assignments and the Semester Project as listed in those assignments. These Data Sets are only used in creating the Sample needed for those other assignments.
Each Set contains values from various states, male or female, and some other subcategories, just to ensure there were enough values with which to work.
When making your Systematic Sample, you will only work with the set you choose, if you need to start again from the beginning, do so. There is a detailed example and video on the Example Tab to help you create your sample. The first row and column of numbers in the Data Set are to help you keep count when making your sample.
