Applying Principles of Leadership is an individual project that requires the student to apply concepts learned from one’s preceptorship.
With that, the student will identify one aspect of the clinical experience in which the student feels the clinical site could improve upon while using the following as a guide:
• The clinical question being investigated is formulated in an objective, concise manner.
• Using professional resources, the latest, most relevant research evidence that pertains to the clinical question is located. Be sure that your Internet source is credible.
• Identify specific practice recommendations derived from the summary of research articles.
• Using critical-thinking skills, gather evidence to support why a specific “best practice” would benefit the clinical site, the patient’s experience, and/or outcome.
You will write a 2-3 page paper in APA format on your instructor-approved evidence-based practice topic. You will include the following: title page, an introduction, a statement of the topic, the background of the topic, a conclusion, and reference page.
Your APA Manual (7th edition) will have guidelines for formatting references and writing a reference list. Please use the LIRN/Library for references.
Prior to embarking on this project, the student is to identify the select clinical problem and discuss this problem with the Clinical IV Instructor for approval and guidance.
Topic examples include:
Investigating and implementing strategies to prevent pressure ulcers in bedridden or immobile patients.
Evaluating the most effective and safe methods for managing pain in various clinical settings, such as postoperative pain, chronic pain, or pediatric pain.
Studying best practices for medication administration, including dosage calculation, drug interactions, and routes of administration.
Identifying evidence-based strategies to reduce the risk of falls among elderly patients, including the use of fall risk assessment tools and interventions.
Assessing the most effective methods for hand hygiene compliance and their impact on healthcare-associated infections.
Examining evidence-based guidelines for preventing and managing healthcare-associated infections, such as catheter-associated urinary tract infections or central line-associated bloodstream infections.
Investigating the relationship between nurse staffing levels and patient outcomes, including patient safety and satisfaction.
