“I have chosen to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. My ultimate goal is to work in the correctional facility I am currently employed as a registered nurse. Several factors have instilled the drive to accomplish this goal. My family is my most important aspect of making this decision. I strive to continue to be the best role model for my children. I want them to know that they can do anything they can set their minds to. Through adversity, failure, and several prospective career choices, I have persevered and continue to exceed expectations. Aside from my family, I have witnessed the difference nurse practitioners have made in incarcerated individuals’ lives. I want to be that difference. I want each and every patient to know that I care for their well-being. I strive to make so many changes within the facility to facilitate a healthy environment that does not judge them for their crimes.
