I thought the Church of Bones was fascinating and a beautiful piece of art. I can see why some would cringe at the thought, but I think knowing that the deceased requested to be placed in the church helps a little bit. This was the final resting place for many that were already buried in a cemetery. But due to overcrowding and mass deaths, they needed space for new burials. I think it is a unique yet respectful way to still honor the dead. I also found the Black Plague interesting but also disturbing. It’s scary to know that the bacteria is locked away in a lab somewhere. Watching the video, it still didn’t seem like enough PPE to be handling something so destructive. I thought it was amazing that Dr. O’Brien was able to discover that some were resistant to the Black Plague due to a specific gene.
The PBS documentary was also hard to watch but it’s evident why it is so important to have end of life discussions with family members and loved ones. It’s not something I would want to have to make decisions for during a very difficult time.
