The importance of building community partnerships. What did you discover regarding the importance of this Clinical Nurse Leader competency?
As a Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL), you must explore all the resources available to you to ensure that the community you serve can be provided well. Having partnerships with different organizations can be an effective way to provide additional services for our patients and their families. There will be times when the resources needed to complete the mission are scarce; therefore, having outside partners to rely on for additional resources is essential. Also, as a Nurse Leader, building community partnerships helps develop trust and engagement in the community. Building trust and community engagement allows the nurse leader to solve problems in the community easily.
What value can you see in ensuring this is part of your role when becoming a Clinical Nurse Leader? Can you see the value of this competency and how it relates, especially to transitions across care?
As a CNL that manages acute care units, most of the resources needed for the care of our patients come from the outside community. Therefore, there tends to be a lot of collaboration between the CNL and other outside providers. Therefore, good communication skills and collaboration are valuable to a CNL. I have come to appreciate this skill and will ensure that it is part of my practice as a CNL.

My MSN project is going on smoothly; I will collect the first wave of post-assessments and add them to my data spreadsheet for future evaluation. Every week, I send the two groups a reminder to utilize the tools in the application to help them manage their stress levels, and I hope the compliance rate and enthusiasm remain high. I was able to get participation from most of the department staff, which was a success for me because I was worried about the staff’s reaction to the topic. But it turned out they were very excited about the topic and were happy someone was addressing it.
