Week 2 part 1: Social Work Leaders Past and Present
Background
Understanding our own historical legacy of leadership is important for recognizing both the opportunities and challenges in modern day social work leadership. This assignment offers the opportunity to thoughtfully assess the ways in which past and present social worker leaders lead and the impact of race and ethnicity, past and present.
Instructions
Prepare an executive summary of 3 social work leaders; these leaders should represent the diversity within the social work profession. Select one pioneer and two current social work leaders to learn more about. This summary should be 1 page with the following:
An introduction paragraph summarizing why you selected these three (3) leaders
A paragraph for each leader selected summarizing a key leadership trait or strength
A closing paragraph listing 3 findings related to social work leadership based on these leaders with past and present race and ethnicity considerations
Sources cited in APA format
Week 2 part 2: Leadership Interview Preparation
Background
This is the preparation for interviewing the social work leader in Week 4. Developing thoughtful questions based on the readings for this module, will ensure the interview is a positive experience for both you and your interviewee.
Instructions
Prepare a list of 8 questions based on the required readings in this module; please note that for 7 of the questions, you must include a supporting reference from the article readings or book chapters; one question must focus on the leader’s work on ADEI (Advancing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion). The last question should ask for a piece of advice the interviewee would give a new MSW in a leadership position.
TIP: If it’s easier to organize, you may create a table that includes the interview questions in one column and the supporting references in the second column and leave the third column blank to fill in the answers when you complete the interview – this is not a required format, but it may help you organize this assignment.
