(**This project is due in Lesson 5**)
OVERVIEW
Identify at least four prominent people or organizations related to your chosen discourse community (DC) who are posting on social media. Write an analysis of the content that is posted and the conversation that seems to be happening on social media. Platforms could include but are not limited to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Avoid writing about posts that are trying to sell a product.
Your paper should be about 1200 words in length, not including your Works Cited list.
Prompts to help you generate material:
Put keywords related to your discourse community in the social media search box. What accounts come up? Who follows or comments on those accounts? Of all that you find, what accounts seem to be important either because of the credentials listed or the high level of engagement such as followers or comments?
What are some of the topics that are being discussed on social media related to your DC? What had you already heard of? What was new to you?
List words you find on social media that seem to be a part of the lexis within your DC.
What purposes can you identify for the content that is posted? Who seems to be the intended audience for the posts?
Do you have any interest in engaging with the content? If you do, report back on any interactions you experience that you find interesting.
What about this experience of looking on social media for accounts related to your DC strikes you as new or interesting? Compare what you expected in this assignment to what you experienced or found. What do you know now that you didn’t know before? What are some things you could do to effectively utilize the opportunities that might be connected to your discourse community and the social media space?
Requirements for the assignment:
In your introduction, tell us how you got started on your social media search. Explain what you expected to find and/or if you had high or no hopes for this activity. You will then move toward concluding the introduction with a thesis that represents a meaningful claim about your findings regarding the presence of your discourse community in social media.
It will be up to you to decide what material to include from your research prompts and how your main ideas might be best organized for readers. Remember, a paragraph is one idea long. Explore each idea in appropriate depth before moving on to a new idea and paragraph.
After your conclusion, in which you will offer a summation of your key points and how they support your thesis, include a list of Works Cited list for the social media sources you examined. (If you cited other sources, include these, as well.)
Rrough draft if needed :::
