summarizing the key points of the book in relation to the concepts discussed
throughout the semester.
The point of a scholarly book review is not to summarize the
content of the book, but to evaluate critically the author’s purpose, thesis,
contentions and methods of analysis. Therefore, you should briefly
summarize the main idea of the book, but focus on analyzing the specifics of
the book and its characters and highlighting how it fits into the topic
discussions we have reviewed in class thus far, including characteristics of
ASD, early warning signs and assessment, effects on family members and examples
of experienced social, communicative and cognitive difficulties. Then provide a
critical review of the book and its merits. Elaborate using class readings,
research and personal experience by making references to specific portions of
the book to illustrate your evaluation.
