Purpose: To gather information from your sources for your research paper.
An annotated bibliography is a list of citations references that includes an explanation of how/why each reference will be useful to your paper. Each properly cited reference is followed by a brief descriptive and evaluative paragraph. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited. Annotations describe the contents of the source and make evaluative judgments about how useful it will be.

What were the questions they were trying to answer? What methods did they use? (don’t get bogged down by the details) What were there main findings? (Look closely at the figures provided.) What conclusions can be drawn from the data?
