ASSIGNMENTS
F) Case Study – Rolling Out Lean in Saskatchewan
Due: June 19, 2024
Competencies Targeted: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
1)
Using a variety of sources such as news articles, academic papers, and/or government reports
(which you must cite), provide an overview of the Lean initiative, its main objectives, and the
context in which it was implemented in Saskatchewan.
2) First identify and then analyze how elements of organizational culture impacted the outcome
of Lean.
3) Identify specific strategic management concepts (anything from the concept map) learned in
this class that were effectively used during the Lean initiative, why they were effective and what
they were effective in accomplishing.
4) Identify specific strategic management concepts (anything from the concept map) learned in
this class that were ineffectively used or not used in Lean, how they could have been used, and
how the outcome may have been different.
5) Propose an alternative approach using what you learned in class to improve the efficiency in,
effectiveness of, and patient satisfaction with healthcare in Saskatchewan. Not all elements in
your approach need to be different from those of Lean in Saskatchewan.
6) Construct a detailed implementation plan for your alternative approach including: clear
objectives and performance indicators, a timeline for action, a timeline for milestones, roles and
responsibilities of various stakeholders, communication strategies, and performance
monitoring/adjustment mechanisms and evaluation instruments.
7) Once your plan is complete, create an Information Briefing Note (two pages maximum) that
could be used by the health minister when introducing this new plan to cabinet, being sure to
include anticipated questions and their potential responses.
Submissions must include all items from 1-7 above. Maximum length: 12 pages including the
briefing note, following APA style.
