Each student will submit a 4-5 page paper of a political issue up to their choosing. Such topics include: immigration, climate change, education, health care, gun control, etc. Students will pick a position and defend it in three parts: 1.) Your argument, 2.) The Rebuttal, 3.) Answering the Rebuttal. A Works Cited with at least 3 references is required. In addition, you will need to quote two political candidates. The objective is for you to treat your argument as a mode of inquiry rather than a way to bolster your opinion or dismantle an opinion that opposes yours. This paper should demonstrate understanding of how to critically engage with an argument as a listener and active participant in the conversation. The paper should conform to APA format.
