For your final essay, you will research one author or poet we have studied this semester.
PART I: Author Bio/Historical context (Suggestion: use Oxford Reference, Official websites of the authors, or the library).
PART II: Literary Analysis. Pick a literary device used in the story/poem that you found compelling (imagery, a symbol, POV, setting, descriptive language, a repeated pattern, theme, motif, etc.). How was it used? Why was it used? What is the point of it? Is this a device the author is known to use often?
PART III: Personal interpretation. What do you find, personally, so meaningful or significant about the story/poem?
PART IV: Include an MLA style Works Cited page including a list of your sources
You still need an introduction paragraph, multiple body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph. You still need to include quotes from the story(s) or poem(s) you choose, and from the sources you use for the author bio/historical context section. Cite quotes with MLA-style in-text citation.
Hint:
Start your intro paragraph talking about everything you’ll cover in the paper, ending in your thesis statementthat focuses on the literary analysis.
Organize your body paragraphs based on parts 1, 2, and 3 above (thus body paragraphs 1-2 about the author, body paragraphs 3-4 about the poem/story itself, and body paragraphs 5-6 personal interpretation).
