For the Final Project, you are going to write an essay on one Jazz artist. You may choose an artist from any era, either an artist we’ve studied this semester or someone not covered in class, including current artists working in the Jazz idiom.
Write an essay of at least 750 words discussing at least three representative tracks by the artist (around 250 words per track).
Your essay should focus on your impressions of the music, and include a discussion of any musical characteristics you hear in the tracks that are typical of the historical eras or styles discussed in class. Include time markings. You may also want to include elements of the music or lyrics you connect with personally.
Include a summation that describes what you feel the artist has accomplished either creatively, personally, and/or professionally through the three tracks.
Include footnotes and references as applicable.
