For this final take home exam, you are required to write two essays where you put all this information together to discuss theories of deviance by connecting all the course information and paradigms/theories presented throughout the course to the lives of Howard Dully and Sanyika Shakur.
In proper essay form for each (two essays, typed/double spaced with introduction/supporting paragraphs/conclusion and proper citations/works cited for each- with a 4-5 minimum page requirement for each essay) address the following two sections:
1) Summarize the life story of Howard Dully and his lobotomy as told in his book. Use important aspects of his story to compare and contrast the Positivist paradigm and its main assumptions in understanding deviance (absolutism, objectivism, and determinism) to the Interactionist/Constructionist paradigm and its main assumptions in understanding deviance (deviance as relative, subjective, and voluntary).Essay MUST include at least 3 separate quotes from “My Lobotomy” and at least one quote from at least 3 DIFFERENT class articles.Quotes must be presented to supplement/illustrate/clarify the information in your text and cannot be simply included without being directly connected to the narrative of your essay.
