Great work this semester! You’ve reached the end of the metagenomics project. In

Great work this semester! You’ve reached the end of the metagenomics project. In the process you have participated in an ongoing research project that could lead to publications in the Miller and Roane labs at CU Denver. The data you generated can be used to answer novel questions about the microorganisms involved in the breakdown of 1,4-dioxane, changes in bioreactor microbial communities over time, and differences between the bioreactors with differing performance in terms of 1,4-dioxane degradation, among many other research questions.
You have one last task: communicate your research to the scientific community in a written report.
Your report will take the form of a research publication. Your report will have five parts:
Background
Methods
Results (from your Data Analysis Assignment)
Discussion (from your Data Analysis Assignment)
References
You’ll see right away that you’ve already done drafts of all sections of this lab report. The Results and Discussion sections will be based on the work you submitted during Week 2 of data analysis. To receive full credit, you must revise your drafts based on TA feedback before you re-submit. If you do not revise your work based on TA feedback, you will lose points for those sections.
We do not have a page requirement for this paper. Five to seven pages is a reasonable target, but the page length varies by the number of figures you include and the size of the figures. You may be over seven or under five, but you want to avoid being overly wordy and you want to make sure you include everything. You will be graded on whether you include all of the required content and whether you improve on your work from earlier in the semester.
For this reason, we are not strict about formatting. We recommend you use 12 pt Times New Roman font, separate paragraphs with a line of space, and use Microsoft Word’s default settings for margins and line spacing. If your TA instructs you to use a different formatting, follow your TA’s instructions. Only Microsoft Word docs will be accepted.
