Example:
Topic sentence: I disagree with Eric Schlosser that the fast food industry takes advantage of teenagers.
Concrete detail (textual evidence): Schlosser even states “Most of the high school students I met liked working at fast food restaurants.”
Commentary (opinion): If most teenagers like working at their job, then how could the company be taking advantage of them?
Commentary (opinion): I think it’s a great idea to keep teenagers busy with a job, less time to get into trouble.
Concrete detail (textual evidence): One of the workers described her experience as being “yelled at by strangers angry that their food is taking too long or that something is wrong with their order.”
Commentary (opinion): It’s good to be challenged at work and learn how to provide great customer service.
Commentary (opinion): A challenging job builds character in an individual.
Concluding Sentence: Even though a fast food job is not everyone’s dream job, it doesn’t mean that the fast food industry is taking advantage of people.
In this activity you will write your response and share it in this discussion forum. All students will share and have the opportunity to learn from each other. As part of this reflective, shared learning, your teacher will guide the discussion pulling out overall insights, feedback, and drafts. Everyone is expected to be positive and respectful, with comments that help all learners write effectively. You are required to provide a respectful comment on one of your classmate’s posts. It’s possible to disagree, but also be respectful.
You will not see other posts until you have posted your assignment.

Hi Maria,
Thank you for your response. I disagree with your opinion, “a challenging job builds character in an individual” because I personally worked at a fast food restaurant and can relate to a lot of what was written in the excerpts. I personally worked extra hours, but was never given higher pay for it and was pressured to work more while I was in high school.
Important Note: Please submit your own original work. Do not copy discussion posts or work from your classmates. That is plagiarism and will result in a failure.
