Objective: To identify, explain, and apply the stages of coming together/apart and the dialectical tensions that animate relationship between the fictional couple, Brooke and Gary (in the film, “The Break-Up”).
For this CAE, do the following:
Watch the movie, “The Break-Up,” paying close attention to the stages of Brooke and Gary’s relationship as it comes together and comes apart as well as the dialectical tensions experienced, using Knapp’s Relational Stage Model and Dialectical Theory.
(Please note –CAE#8 will also involve applying course content to the film, “War of the Roses.”
Identify and explain, in order, Knapp’s (Relational Stage Model) five stages of coming together and five stages of coming apart.
For each stage, provide at least one example from the relationship of Brooke and Gary, as depicted in the film “The Break-Up” to illustrate each of the relationship stages.
Identify and describe at least 2 dialectical tensions the Brooke and Gary experience in their relationship depicted in the film “The Break-Up.”
Throughout the CAE incorporate at least twelve (12) relevant terms/concepts from the text and/or lecture. Be sure to define the concepts and apply them appropriately. Use bold font to identify each of the 12 concepts.
