Retrieving things from your memory, such as by the use of flashcards, strengthens the memories and helps one avoid forgetting the information.
Honestly, I would understand why people try to do this. However, this doesn’t work for me for whatever reason. At some point, I would attempt to use flashcards but when I try to study them the information just goes over my head. As for definitions I used flashcards for it but for certain things like formulas for math or anything else similar to that, it just doesn’t work for me. Even still using flashcards for definitions I find it boring and then eventually I’m distracted doing something else. I like to use practice tests/quizzes or even videos to study. The tests/quizzes may seem like a flashcard but in like a whole different direction because after the first time, I answer the questions I practice them then when I start it up again I get a whole new set of questions that are completely different which challenges me on what I need to learn. I need like a whole different view of what I am learning because if I stick to one definition or way to solve something the whole time when I try to study I just don’t learn anything that comes out of it. I like to find new or different ways to get information, then I even sometimes find easier ways to solve problems. Maybe I will start to use flashcards again but from what I’m going to be studying from now to my future I don’t think it will work. Another thing is that flashcards depend on what kind of subject you are studying cause they don’t work for everything.
The statement “my brain is too full” may be true when you are memorizing facts and figures through cramming into your short-term memory, but if you learn to connect new information to existing knowledge, expressing it in your own terms, there is no limit to how much you can learn.
This happened to me before at some point when I was trying to study. However, I tend to study other information that I need less than the information I need more. When I think I got the “right” information I think to myself that it’s fine so I continue to go practice some questions but when I practice questions I look at it then get confused and then frustrated over where the answer even came from making me have to go over the notes again. We think we can’t learn any more information because we choose to think like that. If we know we can learn a little of something we can learn the rest of the information. As how it says there’s no limit to what we can learn. I have an idea of doing this but I do forget at times. My only issue is just trying to get all the information I need and to stop getting information that isn’t going to help me.
