As an I/O psychologist, you will often provide guidance to executive-level management on selection, hiring, onboarding, and ongoing professional development for candidates who will have the role of first-line manager. The importance of understanding leadership theories is key to the overall financial health of the company because hiring or promoting the wrong individual can have a detrimental effect.
Directions
Research an example of an effective, well-known leader, either contemporary or historical (e.g., Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Malala Yousafzai, Winston Churchill) and select a leadership theory that most aligns with this leader. Then, analyze their leadership qualities through the lens of a specific leadership theory to examine the interplay between leaders and their influence on followers within different situations to motivate performance.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:
Leadership Theory: Describe a leadership theory that applies to your selected leader. Include the following in your response:
Provide your rationale for selecting this theory, including key concepts of the theory.
Outline the strengths and limitations of this theory.
Behavioral Traits: Describe the behavioral traits that make this leader effective.
Cultural Context: Describe the cultural context in which this leader leads/led and how that might impact their leadership practices.
Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging: Explain the influence of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging related to being an effective leader.
What to Submit
Submit a one- to two-page short paper as a Microsoft Word document with single spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Sources should be cited according to APA style.
