Assignment is evaluated for:
A well-prepared, typed, organized, and clearly written short answer and essay that is relevant to topics.
Clarity and quality of writing; appropriate grammar, spelling, and format (APA 7 edition, length, etc).
Application of current and past sources to topic and current events that have occurred in sport.
Holistic analyses of topic, and consideration of current and future of topic.
Topics/Prompt Titles (pick 2; 1 short answer and 1 essay):

When we consider sport participants and spectators, and the impact of sport fandom, why do fans (and sometimes athletes) break boundaries?
How does media influence sport and vise versa? Take into consideration intention and outcome. Examples you may consider (but not limited to) are how the NFL covered Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s relationship throughout the 2023-2024 football season, Travis Kelce and Andy Reid’s altercation on the sidelines during the Super Bowl, and commercials included during the Super Bowl.
How does sport maintain the status quo but also change society? Examples you may consider (but not limited to) are government involvement in sport, and sport being used a political platform or to influence political matters.
How has transfer portal and NIL (name, image, likeness) impacted collegiate sport and the commercialization of collegiate athletes?
How did your youth sport experience shape your view of the current state of youth sports? How does your view influence your future involvement in youth sport? In other words, what are you going to do about the current state of youth sport?
How does gender of coach and/or athlete influence the coach’s ability to be effective? Consider the many intersections and considerations of coaches and athletes.
How morally or ethically responsible is the sport organization/system versus the individual who chooses to participate in sport when it comes to the moral and ethical issues that occur? Examples you may consider (but not limited to) are CTE, moral value development, and risk of injury or long-term side effects of playing.
In the case of athletes taking dietary supplements, who should be responsible for the ingredients and what is consumed in dietary supplements, the individual who consumes them or the manufacturer? Is the use of dietary supplements a gateway to doping?
Considering front stage vs. back stage racism in sport. How does this impact sport being a positive agent of change in society, or diversity of individuals in coaching and higher personal positions, or the exploitation of athletes who identify as minorities?
Consider sport participation of transgender athletes. Examples you may consider (but not limited to) are Title IX, influence of the gender binary, reception of women/men sports, and media coverage.
Is physical education and sport truly inclusive for individuals with disabilities?
How will technology and artificial intelligence (AI) impact the future of sport?
