I would like to elaborate a bit on the assignment for Week 4 – Attribution in Current Events. The assignment asks that you find a news release of some current event, from a newspaper, magazine, Internet, etc. Write a 500 word essay determining the attribution involved. What this means is this…what do you think motivated the person to do what they did? Was it due to dispositional (internal) motives or situational (external) motives? In other words, was it something inside the person like their personality, some characteristic of theirs, abilities, something that they may have been operantly or classically conditioned to, etc., or was it because of a situation they were in, and/or some factors outside of themselves?
Include the challenges associated with making correct attributions. In other words, what might make it difficult to correctly identify their motivations. Please refer to Chapter 10 – Cognitive Motivation: Attribution Approaches
