1. Overcoming communication barriers can be difficult. It is important to let the team know why the change is needed. Having a meeting with everyone at once is a vital way to get the level of importance to the entire team. Before meeting with the staff, I would have all my information ready. Make sure I have all the current numbers and where we want to be to continue being successful. After explaining the why to the team, I would make sure I asked if anyone had any questions or concerns on how to get where we strived to be. The other way I would help the team to understand the sense of urgency for needing change would be by asking them where they think we are. Asking them where they think we are and where they think we need to have made them more involved.
2. The way I would implement this would be by having a initial plan of attack before meeting with my team. If I already have a plan on how to reduce costs, for example, I can show the team what little things can be done to implement these changes. The most important thing not to forget is to ask the team for their input. How do they think we can achieve these changes? Once they understand the “why” the changes need to be made and we have an idea on how to achieve this I would implement weekly communication settings to see where we are at and if the pan is still working or do we need to change something up.
3. If I were the business consultant for Palm college, I would talk to the dean about an effective way to help the team to accept his ideas of change. Having the new deans email go out right away about budget cuts and returning things already boughten might make the team immediately have a initial thought that the dean is there to take things away from them, not to help them. I would have the dean email the team and introduce himself, who he is outside of work and how long he has been in this field. Introducing himself as who he is makes the team see him as a person, not just another boss coming in to make changes.
4.As a consultant for Walgreens, I would utilize the Entrepreneurial Organizational Theory, EOT (Day, Niekerk & Okumus, 1). By aligning all the stakeholders to all have the same common goal, we can come up with ideas together. Energizing the team about the changes we need to make to get more customers & patients in the door. Visioning, use the current company’s vision to break it down and ask the team what they think it means. After getting what they think the company’s mission and vision actually means, explain to them what the stakeholders mean by them and show the team what are some small changes we could make in our stores to make them happen. Lastly, Constituting, see how the ideas of making these changes align and are different from our competitors. When all the ideas are narrowed down to some feasible ideas, bring them back to the stakeholders so they also understand what the team thinks and what we have come up with to do.
It sounds like a lot of things to do to make some small changes but when you have a company with several different locations, it is important to have them all making the same changes at the same time.
