‘Industrial meat’ production refers to the factory farming and large-scale commercial grazing of animals. The growth in industrial meat production globally has been associated with extensive ecological impacts and resource use. Many organisations and experts are now calling for the reduction of meat production and/or the shift to more sustainable forms of meat production.
(i) Discuss some of the key food system dynamics and power relations that have driven the growth of industrial meat production;
AND
(ii) Discuss how these systems of production and power relations need to be addressed and reformed to reduce meat production and to create more ecologically sustainable forms of meat production.
