Using the graph on lecture slide 54 of chapter 4, compare the relationship between the percentage of adults who are obese and the intake of HFCS from 1970 to 2000 and from 2000 to 2005. Do they correlate with each other over both of these time periods? What do these relationships tell you about the role of HFCS in obesity?
** Please keep in mind the discussion on correlation vs causation, discussed in the lecture **
Topic 2: Diabetes
Your Uncle Joe, who has diabetes, was recently hospitalized because his appetite had decreased, he was having headaches, and his doctor’s said that his blood had become more acidic. Upon visiting him when he was first admitted to the hospital, you also noticed that he had odd-smelling breath. Why had Uncle Joe’s blood become acidic? Why did he have odd-smelling breadth?
