The initial steps when a First Aider approaches an accident are very important.
The initial steps when a First Aider approaches an accident are very important. So important that they should be automatic. We’re going to work on thinking through those steps in this assignment! You will be doing a demonstration of these steps, either in video, or by creating a Powtoon… your choice! Assignment Guidelines: Step 1: If you’d like, you can do this assignment in pairs! That means that you can do one assignment together, and both submit the same assignment. If you choose to do this with another student, simply write me a quick note in your submission text box so that I know to look for that. And if you do it solo, that’s fine too. Either way! Step 2: Review the scene size up steps and the victim assessment steps. These can be found in Ch. 4 in your textbook, or in this assignment folder in your Blackboard. Make sure to cover both the scene size up steps and the victim assessment steps! Step 3: Decide if you are doing a Powtoon demonstration or a video demonstration. Yay, technology! Instructions for both methods are outlined below. IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO A POWTOON: Create an animated explainer with a minimum of 5 slides. Your characters should include at least one first-aider and one victim. Of course, you can have more characters than this if you want. Use word bubbles or voice-overs for your characters’ narration. Either way, clearly explain what the characters are doing. For example, as a character is putting on gloves, verbalize or word bubble that they are putting on gloves so that I can clearly see that you’re fulfilling step 1 of the scene size-up steps. If I can’t tell that you are doing the step, then I can’t give you credit for it! (If you don’t know what I’m talking about when I say “putting on your gloves as part of Step 1”, re-review both the scene size-up steps and the victim assessment routine that I’ve posted in the assignment folder). I am putting some basic instructions and how to submit your slideshow in the assignment folder. However, you will certainly have to play around with it and figure it out, just like any other presentation software (such as Prezi). Learning how to use new software is part of the fun!
