The purpose of the Capstone course is for you to create an Action Research Project Proposal which identifies a problem from your current or future educational context that you can attempt to solve. Your goal for this week’s discussion is two-fold. First, you will brainstorm at least three potential topics and second, settle on one based on the feedback in this discussion from the instructor and your peers.
You will first complete a funneling exercise. The metaphor of the funnel is useful here. Imagine that your broad ideas for a project are at the top of the funnel and the potential research problems are what is slowly being filtered through. Ideally, after this process, you have some much more refined ideas. Here is a Sample Funnel Activity to help you.
For the purposes of this exercise, we are focusing on a broad topic/s. In your initial post, address the following:
In reviewing your previous courses, coursework, experience, etc., identify a broad topic for which you would like to study or research more in-depth (should be related to your concentration).
Within your broad topic, identify as many problems as you can.
After you have identified several problems, try to refine them further by narrowing the problem as much as you can.

I am currently working in one of the largest school districts in my city at an African Cultural College Preparatory Academy in a level 3 Autistic classroom as a Paraprofessional my students are non verbal and verbal with behaviors issues
I provided some of my students one on one learning, some of them have to go out of the classroom to receive extra support for occupational therapy, speech therapy and we also take them out for sensory breaks. Each one of my students have different learning goals within their IEPs so our lessons are tailored to fit the needs of each individual students. We have to go by the Missouri standards and the curriculum that we use for our program is called the Aris curriculum which is a curriculum for students who are exceptional learners we also use a database software called I ready to assess our students twice a year so we will know where they are at in reading in math we also take the MAP test which is usually a standardized test for our third and fourth grade students in our classroom.

This video explains how to create a research question. The video develops an example of a research question. The topic of the research here is not as important as the process outlined in the video. Are you being asked to solve a problem? Yes, you are! Your Capstone project will be your chance to identify a problem that is relevant to your concentration, design a way to solve this problem, and then present your work. Certainly, there are many steps to this process. Identifying the problem and constructing a problem statement is the first step.
