Genealogical Map (5 points)
Pick an ancestor and diagram your family’s ancestry. You can choose an ancestor from your matrilineal or patriarchal side. This is basically a family tree with at least two or more generations.
Elder Interview & Reflection Essay (45 Points) 8 Pages
You must interview one of your elders about your family history. Yes, your mother and father are your elders. To have information for your Reflection Essay, your interview should be 10-20 minutes. I suggest you record the interview. You “do not” have to submit the recorded interview. You will use the information gathered in your elder interview to research and write your Refection Essay. You should prepare questions before the interview.
I am flexible. If you cannot interview your mother or father, you can interview any family member (aunt, uncle, etc.) This family member should have information about your family history.
If you don’t have absolutely anyone to interview, you can interview yourself.
The Reflection Essay (RE) must be 8 pages.
You can include in the RE as long as one picture does not take up the entire page.
The cover-page, work-cited are all counted in the page count.
Once you have completed the interview, you must put the reflection essay with your elder within a larger historical context.
Revised guidelines (8 Pages)
Introduce your interviewee and relevance in your life or family’s life.
Reflect on what you discovered from the interview and about your family.
1 or 2 academic resources including books or journal essays (no Internet resources)
You use the academic resources to research something that your interviewee tells you.
Example: If your interviewee tells you, your great grandfather was in WWII. You could include and academic resource on WWII.
