Describe how each sociological theory relates to patterns in inequality and current events (Critical Thinking Skills) Describe the empirical findings of various subfields of sociology. Explain data in fields such as crime, income and wealth, educational attainment, or other areas of measurable inequality (Empirical and Quantitative Skills) Evaluate historical and current explanations of social inequality by applying numerical data or observable facts (Empirical and Quantitative Skills) `Select the example of your choice from Module 8 materials (education, income, or wealth) and write an introductory paragraph overviewing the direction of the paper. (remember that good introductions are often written last, after the paper is written!) In 1-2 paragraphs, describe and explain the data presented in the course materials. You must use the data provided in Module 8; remember to properly cite it! Using evidence from at least two scholarly sources, provide some historical and current explanations of the social inequality presented. Scholarly sources should be reasonably recent – typically in the past 10 years. Older sources may be used only if explaining historical patterns. Scholarly sources should be reasonably related to sociology – depending on the topic, you may end up in psychology, economics, or political science. Fields which are further out, such as history, medicine, or business, need to be clearly related to the topic.
