We’ll now work on some more advanced analytic skills with Excel. This folder contains two files of data. The data relates to selected crimes that have seen an increase in the Columbia area over a specific time period (1,505 crimes). The access data file was created by pulling data from the Columbia Crime Reports. Therefore, it does not contain some of the qualitative data. You do not have all 1,505 crimes reports in the pdf file titled “Columbia Crime Reports”.
Your task is to import the Columbia Crime Data Access Database into Excel as a table. You must use the query function shown in the External Data video from Week 6 to simply focus on one type of crime in the data. Therefore, your excel file will only have data for one crime type. The data contains information on Armed Robbery, Burglary/Breaking and Entering, Hijackings, and Shoplifting. You may not focus on just the Missing Person Report as there is only two in the data. These may be important to look at for some of the other crimes.
Your second task is to create at least one pivot table of the data that shows some of the patterns that you have noted in the data.
Use the PDF file of Columbia Crime Reports to conduct some crude text mining to supplement the information that you have found in the Excel File.
Please attach your excel file with your data and pivot table. In your submission, detail your findings based on your analysis of the data.
