In preparation for this assignment, select a father or mother that you can observe in his/her home environment with a child that is no older than 2 years old. Conduct an interview with your parent and observe his/her interactions with his/her young child. You should ask specific questions about the child’s developmental history, evaluate the child’s temperament and behavior, assess the quality of the home environment, and identify strengths risk factors for the parent-child dyad. Attention should be paid to the quality of the attachment between the parent and child and how this affects resiliency.
Your interview should include the following 4 questions and 6 additional questions that are specific to the parent-child dyad you are observing:
How would you characterize your child’s development?
Did you take any specific steps to support your child’s development? If so, what were they?
Did/Do you have any concerns about your child’s developmental pathway thus far?
What role does the parent’s culture/identity play in their expectations for their child’s development?
Prepare a 1,500-2,000-word paper in which you address the following:
Summarize the interview and observation.
Describe the child’s development history.
Evaluate the child’s temperament, behavior, and emotional development.
Assess the quality of the home environment.
Identify strengths and risk factors for the parent-child dyad. Attention should be paid to the quality of the attachment between the parent and child and the effect this has on resiliency.
Apply at least 1 stage from one of the following theories to the child you observed: Piaget, Keagan, Vygotsky or Erikson (see attached).
