Instructions
Find a representation of statistics represented in the media or news that may be a misrepresentation of the underlying statistics. Typically this wil be a chart or table with accompanying text or a chart/table alone.
Provide a photo or screenshot representing what you have chosen – as well as a link. Also provide the details of the source (proper referencing style).
Note: there are a plethora of sources that have compiled examples as well as analyses of misleading statistics or charts – do not rely on these (eg. Data Pine, Media Matters, Spurious Correlations, Statistics How To, etc,) – you must find your own.
Answer these questions with 125 to a maximum of 250 words:
What story are the authors trying to tell with these statistics (what is the apparent message)?
What is unclear, inaccurate or misleading about the story?
What might be a more accurate or alternative message?
Additional Guidelines
All facts and ideas that are not original must be cited using a consistent form of citation and referencing.
